Over the summer, Berlin Public Schools changed the student management system from MMS to PowerSchool in an effort to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the system while ensuring adequate customer support. Previous parent portal logins are no longer valid and will not allow access to the system. Letters will be mailed home to parents during the week of September 23rd that will include a new login and a brochure outlining the new procedures. We are committed to the parent portal as an effective and timely communication tool for students and parents, and expect the new portal to provide all of the information you have been accustomed to having access to at the middle and high school level.

All parents and their Grade 9 children who are entering Berlin High School for the 2013-2014 school year are invited to our freshman orientation program on Thursday, August 22nd beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the Gibney Gym. This program provides both parents and students with important information regarding the overall high school program. Students will obtain important materials and information including advisory group assignments and schedules. Parents will have an opportunity to listen to a brief presentation by the administration, the school counseling department, and FIP, our renovate-as-new project construction company, followed by a question and answer session. Students unable to attend the program on the 22nd will obtain all of their materials and information on Wednesday, August 28th, when school begins.
There is both excitement and curiosity surrounding the renovate-as-new project at Berlin High School as we approach the beginning the first day of school. This year will be like no other in recent history, because the configuration of parts of our building has changed to accommodate the construction that is underway. These modifications allow us to fully operate as a school, while ensuring that the renovations continue simultaneously. In the spring of this school year, significant new spaces will be opened for our use, including newly-renovated English, social studies, and business classrooms, and the cafeteria. Of course, to get to this point, we will need to operate differently.
I trust that you have been wondering about this and you most likely have questions such as: How will lunch be served; what is different about the layout of BHS; and what safety measures are in place? To answer such questions, the staff, the construction company, the architectural firm, and I have planned a forum for you, entitled “Berlin High School Project Review Night” to be held on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in our main gymnasium (the “A” Gym). Features of our presentation will include:
· Welcome and Introduction of Panel
· Review of Phases and Timelines
· The Current BHS Layout
· Safety of Students, Staff, and Visitors
· Temporary Accommodations
(classrooms, physical education, rest rooms, dining, sports)
· Next Steps and Phases
· Questions & Answers
We also plan to show you around at the end of the evening, if you wish to remain for a tour. Please note: If you attended the Freshmen Orientation on Thursday, August 22nd, you have already received this information.
I hope that you can make it to this event, and I look forward to sharing BHS Building Phase 2 with you on Monday.
